Go to the local bookstore and buy “How to Do Your Own Divorce in Texas” or a similar title. It will have all the paperwork you need and will walk you through the process step by step. Be careful, though – some judges don’t like for people to represent themselves and they’ll be on the lookout for any tiny little mistake you may have made in the paperwork or filing process!

you can go to court house and file and explain to them you don’t know where he is and they can get you the paperwork to do it without him or an attorney is not really needed being you don’t have clue where he is so it would be uncontested divorce…you can also google it online and print the documents out and then all you have to do is file at court house…will cost 200 to 300….good luck and I hope this helps…

Question by Scott P: So I found a file on the family computer named “Divorce Without Children.” Any advice?
I got on the family computer today to use Microsoft Word to type out an assignment. My laptop unfortunately doesn’t have Word and this program you submit assignments through for this class only accepts Word. After I opened it up, a notice popped up on the side saying it had recovered two documents, one of which was “Divorce Without Children.” Now, I’m not a child, I’m 21 living at home for the moment to save more money for study abroad. My little brother is 18 and in his senior year of high school.
I plan on studying abroad for the 2011-2012 academic year in Japan (this would span Sept. 2011 to July 2012 due to Japan’s academic calendar). My little brother is presumably going to college. Perhaps I should brace myself for things to be very different when I get back, right?

I would keep this in the back of your head but don’t assume too much. Continue with life as you have planned but be open for changes. (both positive and negative)

Yes , Texas is a no fault divorce state and can be done without a lawyer if they can both agree to the terms. I can give you advice but the best way to start is with local legal aid. The forms are available. The key is to come to an agreement on all issues.

Question by nytengayle13: I have filed for divorce without a lawyer…..need advice please!?
I went to the courthouse and got the papers and filled out my part and then sent them to my husband who lives in another state. The thing is, I have not heard from him for two weeks now! I sent them certified so I know that they were delivered. I filed for divorce awhile ago and had a lawyer who was doing it pro-bono, and if he didn’t sign the papers I would have had it granted any way because he would not have shown up for the court date. I took him back and of course it didn’t work, and i can’t afford a lawyer now and I am too afraid to ask the one who was gonna do it for free to see if she can do it again. He said that he wanted the divorce done right away so he can get on with his life, but he isn’t doing anything now!!! I can’t make him sign them, I don’t know what to do now! We have no children and no properties together. Help!

If there’s nothing contested in the divorce, you should easily be able to pick up a book at Barnes and Noble with every sheet and peice of paper with instructions on how to fill them out. Even if you have children, if nothing’s contested you can do it all in pro per. Very easy with minimal court filing fees….which the court may order your ex to pay half of anyway.
