Question by Vanessa: Single mom needing divorce, child support, government funding advice?
Hey so I’m a soon to be single stay at home mom with a 2 year old and 38 weeks pregnant. Baby could be due any day. I have no job and no money saved up as my husband has controlled all our money. What options do I have to get out on my own? I would like to get set up with HUD but don’t know if I can apply not having a job (waiting list is like a year) and I don’t know how to get child support if I don’t have money for a divorce. I’m not willing to move in with my parents under any circumstances as they have already said no. Are there any legitimate stay at home jobs? I just don’t know what to do next. I have no clue the first step of divorce or how to get out. Any help would be appreciated.

Best answer:

Answer by leree1019
Why are your parents saying no? Are they hoping that it will force you to work on the marriage? Without more background on the circumstances its hard to give advice.

Question by Fred: Do anyone have advice for Men going back to college over 40, after divorce, paying child support for 2 kids?
Over 40 years old, can I really get help and assistant to go back to college as a divorce man paying child support for two children?

Situation: Filed for divorce in 2008. My divorce have been granted in October 2010 and have not yet been finalized. Pay child support for two children. I have one daughter 13 from the marriage and a one year old son out of marriage. I have over 15 years experience working in accounting. I have been living with my brother and his wife as I was basically homeless and was waiting for my divorce to be finalized. I’ve been working for one year on a temporary assignement which ended in Nov 2010. I am collecting unemployment and seeking full time work and looking to go back to college. I am seeking advice as to how to best stabilize myself with my responsibilities and to take charge of my education. I no longer want to neglect my education. I have strong knowledge as an accountant and realtor. I have a real estate license as well. Please advise.

Best answer:

Answer by please try again
Go to school. There is plenty of assistance for you. The guy I recently broke up with (long story) is 37 and going through a long and drawn out divorce including child support and alimony. His ex wife is taking everything she can…except his desire to grow as a man and make more of his life so that he can continue to support his 3 boys. He started going back to school last year. He makes a good living now, but sees his potential that he could make more with a degree and I am 137% behind him there. If you’re worried about financial aid, talk to an advisor at the college. He/she can tell you what is available in your situation. Do it.

Question by WD05: MO & AR divorce laws, legal advice about spousal support, adultery, home…any lawyers?
Long story…complicated a bit! Please be kind, this is a very emotionally disturbing situation, only serious answers please.
I’ll try to sum it up…

Married in arkansas, resided together in Missouri.
Married almost 4 years, I was a single mother of 3 going back to college when we met, and i had my own home.
we married, I sold my home, we bought a $ 300,000+ home together.
I had to quit going to college and work full-time because his promise to pay my tuition after we married was not fulfilled.
I quit working all together 6 months later at his request because he works away from home and wanted me home when he was not working.
June 2007, he moved out and got an apartment in arkansas, putting much of the blame on his children, stating they do not care for me.
Has spent much time here in our home since then, with many unkept promises of moving back.
He took a job in Asia 1 year ago and while claims to be working 3 months on and 3 WEEKS off, I just found out that he has not been working all that time and in fact has an asian girlfriend with which he is residing, believed to be in Thailand. yet he will not admit this.
He has since let the mortgage get behind, his vehicle was even repossessed this week.
Although I have had suspicions of all of this, I confronted him manytimes and it was always denied.
I lost my part-time job this week because of emotional upset and inability to work. and have discussed many times about geting a full-time job and each time he simply refuses and says there’s no need.
the emotional upset is because i had not spoken tohim in 7 days, got suspicious, found internet profiles(facebook, myspace) with many asian female friends, learned he’s learning the language, etc. I called the vessel he was supposed to beon and he had left 1 week earlier. learned he had been in bangkok, had lasik eye surgery, then was supposed to fly home on feb. 11th, move home permanently, catch up the mortgage, then on the 11th i got an email from him stating he wasn’t coming home. 5 days went by with no word from him, he claimed he had been in jail for hitting the doctor while at his lasik check-up. Now today, 5 more days later, he confesses its over!

I have no money, a home that will eventually go into foreclosure, an unfinished degree with student loans to pay, 3 children to support, no means to go to the doctor for some type of help with my upset and nervous situation.
His job is a contract position, no taxes withheld, all checks deposited into an Asian bank account, possibley in Singapore. His income averages $ 150,000 per year. He claims he doesnt have a passport anymore either.
I have suspected, but he will not admit to anything and I’m afraid he may be seeking citizenship in an Asian country and am unsure as to whether or not this will make me responsible for all of our shared debt.
What are my chances of getting spousal support, at least temporarily?
Should I go ahead and file for divorce now? or only tryto seek spousal support and let him show that he is the guilty and abandoning party by waiting for him to file?

***PLEASE***before any snide and hurtful remarks are made, please be aware that the only thing I am guilty for is loving someone who happens to be quite manipulative, hurtful, selfish, quite convincing, and someone whom I have always been able to trust and who I thought was my best friend as well. I am not a stupid person, I am very trusting and have always been an honest person. I am however, obviously a terrible judge of character. This situation has completely turned my world upside down, so please only serious answers from those who have serious educated answers.
I do plan to get an attorney, but have to have finances first and am trying to get a sense of what I may be up against.

.

Question by foreverL: divorce and custody support help and advice?
My parents are going through a divorce. My mom does not have custody of me because she went to jail because I told my dad she abused me to get back at her for making me upset with a diferent situation with a family member. She was arrested now she lives with her mom and dad who threw us out of their house and lives last summer and wernt in any contact with us until 3 days after my moms arrest (new years eve) courts comming up and i want to live with my mom. idk if i can because of the abuse thing. but lately my mom and i havent had a very strong relationship as we used to. i feel im slipping away every visit. she seems more and more like a stranger. she had a few guy friends that my dad thinks were boyfriends shes been fighting for me but she doesnt spend hardly any time with me because of paperwork and searching for a job. i want to be with her but my dad doesnt want that for me. i have a boyfriend here at my dads that i would die to leave. i miss my mom and am more depressed everyday. i hate having to chose and i dont know where i want to go. no one is talking to me about the abuse thing which was a lie. idk what to do please help with any advice.

Best answer:

Answer by Common sense isn’t anymore..
So you lied about your mom and let her get ARRESTED and now you want to live with her? I sincerely hope she does not allow it. She needs to move on and try to regroup and get her life together after it was torn apart by YOU.

At any time you could have told the TRUTH and helped her, but you still choose not to. She should not have anything to do with you again in my opinon. I would write you off completely

Question by WannaBeMom: How do I support my friend? She is asking for advice, she wants a divorce?
My friend is 23. She met her husband, got engaged after two months and married him when she had known him for only 9 months.

She has been married for a little over a year. I noticed she has seemed unhappy and I asked her if everything was okay.

She told me that she has known since after the honeymoon that her husband was not the right man for her.

She says he is a good person, but she realized she was never in love with him and rushed to get married.

She said she wants a divorce and he doesn’t because he loves her.

She tried counseling and feels that nothing is going to make her truly love him.

She was going to leave him a month ago, but he freaked and she promised to give it another shot.

But she said to me, “How long do I have to try before I leave? I know this wasn’t suppose to be.”

I feel horrible for her. How can I help her get thru this?

Best answer:

Answer by Jenny
she shouldnt have rushed into marriage so quickly, she have waited. she should just leave.

Question by V2: Divorce and child support advice?
I left my husband 9 years ago, but we never got a divorce. Few times I asked him for a child support; he promised to help, but I didn’t get a penny.

I usually was doing OK by myself, but now, like many of us, I am hit by recession. I really worry about my finances.

My ex is a Jew, and lives with his mother. His mother controls everything, and everything they own is on his mothers name. Even car he drives officially is owned by his mother. Most money they make are in cash. His mother has a pretty lucrative business, although officially she receives food stamps and Medicaid.

In order to move out with my daughter, I needed money for rental deposit, car deposit (we had just one car at that moment), so I wanted to take some money from our joint account. I got $ 2000, but just after I signed a money borrowing agreement with a promise to return my ex money in a year with interest. Everything we owned at that moment I left to my ex.

Because I never received any child support, I never returned him any money. My ex tried to make me to pay him $ 10.000 about 5 years ago, but I threaten him to sue for child support, so he backed up.

Now I really need a child support, I would like to get a divorce as well. However money I was saving to pay for a lawyer, I had to spent on a medical bill.

What steps I should take, where I need to go , and what chances I have.

I would appreciate your advice.
