Question by sharonsvs: Divorce in 2 different states advice?
We live in 2 different “no fault” states. We have already been living like this for 4 years so the 2 children are already used to the travel back and forth. There are 3 homes, 401 K’s, savings, money involved but “he” has control over all of it. I don’t know much financial at all except what is in the bank. The divorce will most likely be ugly ( I hope not) but when there is money and children involved and anger (I have a career in another state) I fear that nasty behavior comes out. Do I start with a lawyer in my state and a consultation? How can I start to prepare? I would appreciate any advice except for those who want to preach for my marriage work. We both realize we have nothing in common except for our children. And our careers are going in 2 different directions. We have had a long distance marriage for over 6 years now including my travel and neither can move to each other’s state due to our own love of our careers. Our children are loved immensely by both of us.

Answer by mzz_depp If you want things done in YOUR state and not have to travel back and forth for court dates, especially if it is gonna get nasty… you need to go to a lawyer ASAP and file now!! Whoever files is where the divorce will be done, if he files in his state before you, then it will all be done there and you will be the one traveling and your lawyer will have to be in that state as well, and take it from someone that knows, you DO NOT want to have to deal with this.. it can drain you emotionally and financially….
Question by BEB: I need some advice on divorce in two states CT and PA?
My girlfriend is trying to get divorced so she can retain full custody of her child and I need some advice on how and what to do and if anyone knows a good lawyer, we are short on cash and need help. He is abusive and controlling and he has put out threats to me and my girlfriend and he has had a restraining order but it just lifted. PLEASE PLEASE we need help. I want this to happen so that I can adopt her and we can be a family and not have this to deal with on a day to day basis. Also he stalks her and that’s why she ran away from him with her child. If you can help that would be appreciated. Thank you

Stupidly got married when I was 18 and now 21 and wants a divorce. My husband lives in Maine and now lives in Florida. We have no cars in the city, houses, or anything, just 2 dogs. We are in good conditions, I do not think you need a lawyer. But how I can begin to seek a divorce when we live in two different states? We were married in Maine. Where I can find maps? How much does all this at the end if I do or not to hire a lawyer?

May be imposed (by force), as amended, if the divorce decree states that the divorce file jointly for a given year, but a spouse who works quickly and file separately, supporting children, however – against the tribunal's creation?
