Question by Empress ~of~Roam: Can I get some advice on a family dispute over land and divorce agreements from 23 years ago?
I’ll give this to you in 3rd person form so as not to lead anyone in any direction: In 1983 a couple w/ 3 grown sons was divorced. The man had a small farm that had been in his family for several generations. To keep things more civil the woman didn’t try to take the farm on the VERBAL agreement that it was given to the sons & the man agreed. They both remarried and now the man is sick, maybe dying. He says he is going to sell the farm and pay his debts and planned funeral expenses so he can die debt free and 2nd wife won’t have to spend the insurance on him. If any money is left over he will divide it among the 3 sons. The sons say it is not his to sell, but theirs due to agreement of 23 years ago. Legally, the deed has the man’s name on it. Should the proceeds be split w/1st wife because of the agreement (everything else was divided equally at the time of the divorce). Should all money go to sons? Should 2nd wife get any of it? The man wants to be fair and just, but WHO’S FARM IS IT
I am not either wife. One of the sons is my friend and he asked my opinion on the matter. He is concerned that 2nd wife is out to take the farm and any or all proceeds from it. She had already spent all of the man’s money on new cars, cruises to the Bahamas and fancy clothes. Now she is pushing him to sell the farm to pay all the debts she has accumulated b4 he dies from this illness and she is left having to pay the bills which are rightfully hers. He is a simple man with down-to earth tastes. I have known them all for 15 years. He would have never bought a new Cadillac (he drives a pickup) or taken a cruise. I fear my friend is right in that 2nd wife is draining his dad and now trying to take the last thing he has- the farm.

You didn’t do a good job at disguising your bias by the way. Your avatar reveals you are a woman, “To keep things more civil” and the rest of the discourse reveals you are the 1st wife.
It’s his farm, it was a mistake to trust he would honor his verbal agreement from 23 years ago. He conveniently forgot about it.

I’ve been in the process of getting a divorce for the past 5 months. My self esteem is down the toilet and I am rather depressed. Am taking symbyax 6/25 for bipolar disorder which treats manic moods. I just keep thinking about it – can’t stop. Any advice? Is it too early to start dating?

Question by Fred: Do anyone have advice for Men going back to college over 40, after divorce, paying child support for 2 kids?
Over 40 years old, can I really get help and assistant to go back to college as a divorce man paying child support for two children?
Situation: Filed for divorce in 2008. My divorce have been granted in October 2010 and have not yet been finalized. Pay child support for two children. I have one daughter 13 from the marriage and a one year old son out of marriage. I have over 15 years experience working in accounting. I have been living with my brother and his wife as I was basically homeless and was waiting for my divorce to be finalized. I’ve been working for one year on a temporary assignement which ended in Nov 2010. I am collecting unemployment and seeking full time work and looking to go back to college. I am seeking advice as to how to best stabilize myself with my responsibilities and to take charge of my education. I no longer want to neglect my education. I have strong knowledge as an accountant and realtor. I have a real estate license as well. Please advise.

Go to school. There is plenty of assistance for you. The guy I recently broke up with (long story) is 37 and going through a long and drawn out divorce including child support and alimony. His ex wife is taking everything she can…except his desire to grow as a man and make more of his life so that he can continue to support his 3 boys. He started going back to school last year. He makes a good living now, but sees his potential that he could make more with a degree and I am 137% behind him there. If you’re worried about financial aid, talk to an advisor at the college. He/she can tell you what is available in your situation. Do it.

Question by GreenGirlie: Any advice on getting over a hard divorce? ?
I’m having a hard time getting over a painful divorce. He walked out on me and the kids I spent half of my life with him. I treated him really well. He left because he never got to party anymore once he had kids. He keeps brining up that he never even wanted any. I even worked and he didn’t. He now likes to remind me of how much he wants to sleep with other girls, parties all night, and sleeps until 1. While I have all of the responsibilities and bills. Any advice to get through this? I have no will to fight anymore. He just keeps kicking me while I’m down (emotionally).

Question by Smart Kat: What are some qood sites, quotes of other advice for divorcing parents clashing over parenting?
The oldest was having trouble at school and the father (custodial parent) was supposed to have a meeting with the child and teacher. But the kid called mom and got her to pick her up early from school – avoiding school and the meeting.
Both of the parents need to communicate more for the sake of the chld rather than just doing the opposite of what the other parent wants out of spite.
